The very last samurai

We're nearing the end of the school term here and my son's preschool is going to hold an International Day party to celebrate. Kids have to come in a costume representing any nation on the map. The last two times, he went as a panda (China) and as an Italian chef, and we made the costumes together. This time round, he wants to be a samurai! I was a little stumped and was worried about what to use as I did want it to be partly from recycled materials.

Here's what I came up with. Even daddy helped with the samurai hat. I think that bit turned out a little too big!! :-p

The fierce samurai with sword!

So how was it made? Click below for more info!

Go to the supermarket and look for egg crates!

Paint black and let dry - it looks silver here
because of the strong sun!

Cut 2 pieces for the body,
4 pieces for the shoulder pads.

Use a white or silver marker to
add "embellishments"

Use an orange crayon to give the armour
a rusty look.

String the shoulder pieces to each side of the
body piece with a thick needle.

If you want, you can add some red cardboard at the back of the egg crates for a little colour too.  My son said that this is his favourite costume so far! :-) I'm glad he likes it...
