No SLS Soap

SLS - that's Sodium Lauryth Sulphate - the chemical that makes your soap and shampoo go frothy, and your skin get itchy. I've been buying Dr. Bronner's on a regular basis now and I was the only one in the family using it for the shower until my hubby came down with a rash in January. It was terrible. We really didn't know what had happened. It slowly spread from his legs and then it was everywhere (save his face!).  It got worse when he used his normal soap. We tried calamine lotion and even the ayurvedic remedy of tumeric powder with water. Eventually, it got really bad and he had to go to the doctor's for antihistamine. He had to take triple the dosage that I take for my peanut allergy - it was THAT bad.  All's well now, and we've changed all our shower gel to Dr. Bronner's and now our laundry detergent and washing up liquid is Australia's Earth Choice, which you can buy from NTUC Fairprice [Note: Earth Choice washing up liquid does have SLS but it's not the first item on their ingredient list].

Sharon from The Naturally Better Company sent me samples to try out their Eco Choice range after I blogged about it last year.  I liked their products but I couldn't really tell how effective the laundry powder and whitener are as it was only one sample.  The hand wash smelt lovely though! Verdict - I think I would still stick to my Dr Bronner's and the Earth Choice only because they are more economical than the Eco Choice range.

Only click below if you're not squeemish as there's a pic of the rash!

  1. Earth choice (dishwashing liquid?) contains these: Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone. Not v environmentally friendly

M & M is ok for washing/cleaning but not if its in yr shampoo, handwash etc:

    1. Hi zenman, Thanks for your advice. I now stick to using soap nuts for doing the laundry. You can read about it here http://greenissuessingapore.blogspot.sg/2012/07/my-soap-nut-journey-so-far.html
