Portrait Shuffle - Who is Your Alter Ego?
Alter Ego - Portrait Shuffle
I'm taking part in the Portrait Shuffle which is organised by Through Our Hands.  First time I am taking part in an overseas exhibition, but what I like about it is that a minimum donation of £5 from every Portrait Shuffle is donated to international NGO, Save the Children "who do so much to help children around the world be safe, healthy and have an opportunity to learn and live their lives to the full". The Portrait Shuffle canvases will be exhibited at Festival of Quilts, NEC, Birmingham, UK in August 2017 so if you spot mine, do let me know!

Alter Ego

Materials - hotel bedsheet, scraps (cotton and organza) thread (Gutterman, Auriful and DMC)
Techniques - free motion embroidery, applique, handstitching

I chose to stitch David Bowie because he's always changing his persona to express himself, and very artistically too.  Having an alter ego usually draws comparisons with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, or even Jack Napier and the Joker. However, having an alter ego can empower you, especially when you need to break boundaries or step out of your comfort zone, or even enhancing your personal growth.
I recently read this article in Huffington Post, and came across this:

Call up your fierce alter ego and get sh*t done
We all need our second self to push through to make things work and grow, to make ourselves grow.  Many people have alter egos. For example, Sascha Fierce and Beyonce, and Lady Gaga and Stefani Germanotta.  There's also Peter Parker and Spiderman, and the well loved Clark Kent and Superman.

Who is your alter ego?

Only you know what the characteristics of your alter ego are for you to make positive change. There is no silver bullet, as it will take a while to slowly peel away the layers of skin that keep you guarded from growing.  But beneath all of that, you'll find your alter ego that will help you get things done.
