Zipper Pull Replacement
One of the things that I had never gotten round to fixing was this zipper. The pull had come off and I was left pushing the zipper head up and down, and with great difficulty. I read you could replace it with a key ring, or even a telephone wire connector. But I settled for a friendship braid instead - do you remember doing them in school with your friends? Over, under and over!
What You Need
Embroidery thread (6ply) of any colour - I used black and deep purple.
Scissors
Needle
Cut 4 strands of embroidery thread, each ~20cm long. Use all 6 plys.
Thread Holes
Using the needle, thread 2 strands through each hole. Double the thread as though you are threading the hole. You will now have 8 strands.
Start the Macrame
Pick the left most strand (black in the video) and tie double knots over the one next to it; remember the left most strand will go OVER, UNDER, OVER it's neighbour each time. Don't change the way you knot or you will end up with a funny braid.
Your left most strand will now be the 2nd left most strand. Using this same strand repeat with it's neighbour to the right, and continue until the former becomes the first strand on the right. Sound complicated? Take a look at the video below.
Finishing Off
Once you have repeated this with all the strands, you can cut off the ends. You will now have your own personalised ring pull!
The Extra Touch
Why not add small beads or even substitute one thread with a very fine chain?

Clever idea, Agy!!! I'll remember this next time the tab comes off a zipper.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam. It took less than an hour to do :-)
DeleteFeatured today, Agy...
DeleteThis is so cute. Much nicer than a paper clip by far :) Now I wish I had a pair of pants with the broke tab.
ReplyDeleteOh, I never thought of a paper clip, but I think it would be a little sharp; might tear the trousers when it's in the wash.
DeleteGreat idea! My husband has a coat that has lost it's zipper pull and its hard for him to put it on. I can fix it now! :-)
