DIY Refashion - Skirt to slouchy shorts!

Yay! I finally got the hand sewing done.  My original piece of clothing was an elasticated circle skirt with a row of buttons going down the front. It's been with me since forever and I love the print but it was time for a change.  I was thinking of using it as lining but that would be a waste, wouldn't it?  The good thing about this refashion was I didn't have to measure out my waste  waist, there was no need to tuck in any fabric and no need for zips!! Woo hoo!

The original skirt.
I folded the skirt into half.

Used a pair of shorts as a template. Fold that and place on skirt.
The top of the shorts matched the elasticated part of the skirt.
Pin, mark and cut. Allow 1cm for seam allowance.

Cutting along the outline!

Open up and your garment should have 2 legs and a waist! Sew along R and L legs until you reach the crotch area. Then sew R with L  in the crotch area - basically you're forming a U shape.

This was before the breakdown of my machine. Had to sew the
crotch area by hand in the end.

My slouchy shorts!  They were made so that the
buttons were on the side.

I can show a bit of leg :-)

I'm very happy with this pair of shorts - they're really comfortable in the hot and sticky weather we have in Singapore! :-)

  13. I love how the buttons go down the side. I will have to do this with a skirt that is too worn for church but good enough for every day clothes.
