Deja Vu Vintage

I love thrift and I love vintage too. Today I am featuring a quaint little shop called Deja Vu Vintage. It is located at Millennia Walk, right in the heart of Singapore. Some of you might remember that Deja Vu Vintage supported the Singapore campaign for Fashion Revolution Day! Who is behind the shop, I hear you ask? It's Kelly Yeo ..... read more below !

Who are you, and why did you decide to set up Deja Vu Vintage?
Just a girl, in love with vintage fashion. I set up Déjà Vu Vintage more than 8 years ago because I was bored with Singapore shopping. I didn't see any option other than big mass-produced chain stores, and longed for the vintage offerings that I had seen overseas whilst travelling. 8 years ago we were one of the first vintage stores in Singapore, and certainly the only one to bring vintage upmarket. There was very little awareness of vintage then, but we are proud to say everyone's really well-travelled these days and much more open to and educated about the idea of wearing vintage (we think we had some part to play in this too!). Déjà Vu Vintage also carries a selection of lovingly handmade bags and jewelry that's often one-of-a-kind too. We also have a designer range spanning coverted vintage and brand new labels like Chanel, YSL, Pucci. Basically we are one-of-a-kind in Singapore!

Where do you source Deja Vu Vintage's selection of garments and accessories?
The vintage is handpicked mostly from France, U.S., UK. The accessories are handmade everywhere and the selections change constantly. We currently have designers from Europe, US, Canada, Singapore, Thailand, Prague, Turkey, Israel and much much more!

What are your tips in choosing vintage clothing?
Always try it on….nothing looks like what it is on the rack. Quality is important, so always check for condition and make sure you're comfortable with it.
Also, go to a reputable dealer to be sure what you are buying is vintage! So many sellers latch on to the term 'vintage' these days when they themselves aren't even aware what that means. It's not nice to buy something thinking it's vintage only to realise it's a low-quality reproduction.

Is there such a thing as a vintage trend?
Fashion does go in cycles. What we stock in the boutique each season is influenced but not dictated by current trends. And you'll find most top designers' current collections often draw inspiration from the past or are directly drawn from vintage clothing.

In Singapore's hot weather, sometimes our clothes get spotty with yellow patches. How do we take care of our vintage clothes and make sure they will last long?
Don't store in plastic, but fabric-based covers that breathe or wrap in tissue. Put a dehumidifier in the closet. If you store pieces for a long time without usage, take it out once in a while to dryclean or air. If accidents happen send it to a trusted drycleaner.
