DIY Upcycled Shirt to Pillow Cover

Do you like the look of my revamped blog so far? I decided to do a bit of housecleaning after I attended the Singapore Mom Bloggers first event a few weeks back - I think all of us were raring to go with our new blog ideas.  The revamp is taking a bit of time because I'm using Blogger rather than Wordpress.  And because of the choice of platform, I am having so much trouble organising my posts into categories! I wish I had paid more attention to them when I first started blogging. I'll get there eventually, so please bare with me.

Anyway, you might remember the way my white blouse went when I attempted to dye them naturally with flowers. Well, I decided to cover the stains with circular patches of jean materials from old jeans (I used one of them for a necklace). I originally wanted it to be a shirt with jean patches but then one reader asked whether I was making a quilt. Alarm bells set off and true enough I did look like a quilt. In the end, I decided to convert the whole thing into a pillow/cushion cover.

One of the things I learnt from this project (other than to not look like a quilt) is that I should have pinned and sewed discs onto the garment in stages. I had not done this and so I kept getting poked and scratched by the sewing pins!

Once I had the discs sewn on, I turned the shirt inside out, and cut the shirt below the sleeves. The shirt was then sewn up, as indicated in the image below. And, that's it!

I'm glad I made this pillow cover, and not wear it! Hope you agree :-)

  4. Can we be friends, haha! I love upcycling, repurposing and just started sewing with a machine I scored for $17 at a garage sale. I've only seen 2 of your posts that were linked up to Creative Spark, but I'm following you on social media and about to track you down on Bloglovin. Fun stuff!

  6. What I have found to be one of the best way to tackle mandala pillow rotation is to use Patchwork Pillow Cushion Covers. I have recently added a whole slew of these wonderful white pillows to my family room and bedroom.
