Cardboard Lamp Making

We had a great time yesterday evening making cardboard lamps at the Maker Nite, Sustainable Living Lab (SL2).  We learnt how cardboard is constructed, how to cut it and how to create a lamp. There were no rules except for the fact we were given about 3 hours to come up with our own lamp; we had to use our creativity!!

My team created the Zen lamp - it was supposed to be a globe but then we realised that cutting perfect circles would be near impossible for us novices. So, we ended up cutting squares!

Our finished piece! It now resides at the SL2, Bottle Tree Park.

Drop by SL2 -  it is a tech-driven social enterprise, and it houses its own vegetable garden, water treatment plant, composting area and even a woodwork shed.  I'm looking forward to its next Makers Nite!!

  2. I've wondered about things I can do with cardboard but hadn't thought of a lamp. My only worry would be if there's a risk of fire??

    1. Hi there. I had a similar concern too. I checked with the instructor and he said to use LED lamps as they generate less heat, but when designing the lamp to ensure that there is enough circulation around the bulb to dissipate the heat. Hope that helps!
