Refashioning my nautical top

Have you ever refashion a refashioned item of clothing? A while back I discovered that one of my fave refashioned tops was beginning to stain due to the solvents in the glue that I used to embellish it (note to self, use a needle and thread next time!).  Anyway, I tried hard to save it from the bin and settled on a lovely tutorial from Tea Rose Home  I wore the new top on our outing to the Mid-Autumn Festival picnic with friends :-)  Have a great week ahead....

I had to get rid of the old embellishments first.  Here's my tutorial!

Cut out the old embellishment and traced it onto
neckline (leaving seam allowance)
of old large cotton t-shirt.

Cut out the trace portion and sewed it back onto old tee.

Cut 2" strips from the blue tee on the bias.
Then made them into wave shapes!

Set the sewing machine to largest number and sewed
a straight stitch through all the strips.
Pull ends of thread to make
ruffles.

Sewed on ruffles starting from the top and made sure
the stained parts were covered.

Also sewed them on the back!  :-)

Hoping this top will last a bit longer. Since it's made from cotton, and I don't bleach my clothes, I think it will stick around in my closet a bit more :-)

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

    1. Thanks, Adin! Dying's an idea but then the rope would have been dyed too. I still have the embellishments, so I can pin it on elsewhere. :-)

  5. I'm about to refashion a refashion. Great job on extending the life of your t-shirt. The blue works so well with white.

    1. Thank you, Pam. I think the blue and white reminds me of the Greek coastline, with the white houses and blue sea :-)

  7. I'd say it was a complete success! I pinned Tea Rose Home's tute and hoped to attempt it one day, now you've given me encouragement to try it myself. Going to take a cruise through your blog, can't wait to see your other posts.
